# Day 0
This day started fairly normally. I had the morning with Bennet during our quarantine with COVID-19, and the cats whined to go outside as they always did.
I let them outside and started the day. We called grandma Herman, got a visit from Grandma/Grandpa Olheiser, and had some fun.
At 11:00 AM, our neighbor knocked on our door. She informed me that one of our cats, the brown one, was dead in her backyard. ([details](0000-00-00.md))
After checking her backyard, I confirmed it was Jaxon. Still in shock, I returned home to put Bennet inside and retrieve the body.
I brought him into our backyard, his home, and called Nicole. She left work immediately to return home.
I was able to hold myself together until she came home and took over Bennet, then I was finally able to go to Jaxon.
I must admit, I wept more than I thought possible over his body.
My wife brought out a box full of blankets for me to lay his body in. I took a shower with his collar and let out as much pain as I could.
She had to return to work at 1:00 PM, and I tried to put Bennet down for his nap.
After he finally fell asleep around 3:00 PM, I went back outside to be with Jaxon some more.
I brought him inside and, although it might be crazy, I put him on a blanket on the bed and laid next to him for approximately a half hour.
This would be the final time I got to "nap" next to Jaxon. My best friend. The pet I had loved more than any other.
I was still able to get his scent, a very dusty smell (likely from the dirt, he was a cat of course) and I cried again for my friend.
This is what I was used to seeing when I woke up from an afternoon nap.

When my wife returned home we both went out to his box and cried for him. Bennet didn't really understand, but he knew that Jaxon was sleeping and wouldn't get up.
The first night without Jaxon was not as hard as I thought, though I think it was mostly due to lingering shock and because I was very tired.
I slept facing his side of the bed, with my arm out as it always was. He was not there, but it was a slight comfort.
He would always get *so* jealous when I would face Nicole that I was very rarely able to do so.
Now I am able to, but I don't think I will be comfortable sleeping facing away from Jaxon's side for a few nights.
Thankfully Brad slept down at my feet, so I was able to feel some cat-warmth, silly though it may sound.
